Oceansgate hosts first Virtual Topping Out Ceremony
29 May 2020
Kier and Plymouth City Council celebrated topping out at Phase two of the Oceansgate development, by hosting the UK’s first virtual topping out ceremony, with the recording now available for all to see.
The Leader of Plymouth City Council and Oceansgate tenants watched on from their homes as members of the Kier team, including drying lining apprentice Amy from NBC, placed a ceremonial tree at the highest point to celebrate this milestone. When complete, the new marine Enterprise Zone will provide office space and industrial units for businesses.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, all works are being carried out in line with Public Health England’s advice and adhering to the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures.
Council leader Tudor Evans OBE said:
“Oceansgate is an incredibly important development for us, transforming what was disused Ministry of Defence land into a thriving hub of businesses and helping to safeguard and create new high skilled jobs in the marine, defence and technology sectors in Plymouth.
“It’s fantastic to see Phase Two coming together and we were delighted to host the first virtual topping out ceremony in the UK, so that everyone who has been involved in the project could celebrate this milestone safely.”
